I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest - Review

❋ ❋ ❋

Libby and May created Princess X a long time ago, but that came to an end after Libby and her mother died in a car accident. Now three years later, May has started to notice Princess X all over Seattle - graffiti, stickers, patches. She even finds a webcomic about Princess X and the more she looks the more she begins to find parallels between Princess X and Libby's story. May is sure that Libby survived all those years ago and now desperately needs her help.

I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest is an intriguing, plot-driven mystery story that goes fast. The integration of the comics with the text is really well done and the book fully relies on this combination to carry the plot. I do wish we could actually see the entire webcomic, rather than just the important bits and pieces. The story focuses on the friendship between May and Libby, plus others they meet along the way (with zero romance). That being said we don't see a whole lot in terms of character development, especially when it comes to The Needle Man, the villain. The fairy-tale component is a major part of the story, so maybe that's why the character is presented almost two-dimensionally.

I Am Princess X is an intense, self-contained mystery novel with great graphic novel panels thrown into the mix. I wouldn't say no to Princess X's full story.

I read this novel from July 3 - 4, 2015 and my review is also Goodreads.
